Article 3 of the same decision: it applies only from 05.03.2027. Until then the previous period stands.
Protection is not running out — it really was extended. But in most countries the document itself must be renewed in early 2027, and that is a separate national procedure: automatic in some places, and elsewhere you must apply yourself, in a window that opens as early as this winter.
