Greece: the 90-day stay rule has changed
WHAT CHANGED Section “Support підтримка”: was “The 90-day deadline applies only to the country in which you are considered to reside. … Please note that this deadline expires once you apply for and receive temporary protection…” → now “The 90-day limit is calculated cumulatively for European Union countries that use the Entry/Exit System (EES), such as Greece. … Please note that this time limit ceases as soon as…” WHO IS AFFECTED Mainly people who have NOT yet applied for temporary protection: these 90 days set the deadline by which you must apply. It does not affect those who already hold protection. WHAT TO DO Recount your own deadline using the quote below and apply for protection without waiting for the final days. If the count has changed against you, check the official page linked below. VERBATIM FROM THE SOURCE (English) “The 90-day limit is calculated cumulatively for European Union countries that use the Entry/Exit System (EES), such as Greece. … Please note that this time limit ceases as soon as you receive a temporary protection residence permit in Greece.” Source: migration.gov.gr — https://migration.gov.gr/en/ukraine/
Luxembourg: temporary protection extended to 04.03.2027
WHAT CHANGED Date: was 4 March 2026 → now 4 March 2027 WHO IS AFFECTED Everyone who already holds temporary protection in this country. WHAT TO DO Nothing. The period is extended automatically and you do not need to replace your document. An older date printed on your card is normal: the decision sets the period, not the print. Just keep your registration details current. Sweden: protection extended to 4 March 2028, with a caveat about military obligations
WHAT CHANGED The Swedish Migration Agency updated its page: the EU extended temporary protection until 4 March 2028, and restrictions are being introduced for people who have military obligations in Ukraine. WHO IS AFFECTED People applying for protection in Sweden for the first time who have military obligations in Ukraine. The page does not specify what exactly must be proven. WHAT TO DO If you already hold protection in Sweden, this change requires nothing from you. If you plan to apply and are subject to military obligations, check the document requirements on the agency page before applying. Hungary: temporary protection cards are valid until 4 March 2028 even if they show another date
WHAT CHANGED The extension to 4 March 2028 applies in Hungary. Cards remain valid until that date even if an earlier expiry is printed on them. WHO IS AFFECTED Everyone holding Hungarian temporary protection. Eligibility is unchanged: whoever qualified before still qualifies, including military-aged men. WHAT TO DO Nothing. You do not need to replace the card. If an employer, hospital or school questions it, show them Government Decree 196/2025 of 8 July, Section 2 (4), as amended by Government Decree 145/2026. Denmark: men aged 23–59 need documentation about military obligations
WHAT CHANGED Denmark added a condition: a man aged 23–59 who is subject to the Ukrainian mobilisation rules can be granted a residence permit only if he can document that he is exempt from military service and has fulfilled his military obligations in Ukraine. WHO IS AFFECTED Men aged 23–59 who do not yet hold a Danish permit and are applying for the first time. The page says nothing about people who already hold one. WHAT TO DO If you plan to apply, gather your military records in advance. The page does not say which documents Denmark accepts as sufficient, so ask the authority directly before applying. Czechia: get the visa sticker in person by 30 September
The online registration most people completed in spring extended temporary protection in Czechia only until 30 September 2026. For it to run until 31 March 2027 a second step is required: appear in person at a Ministry of the Interior office and get a new visa sticker in your passport. What the official source says (ipc.gov.cz): "Online registrací se vám dočasná ochrana prodlouží pouze do 30. 9. 2026. Až tímto krokem se vaše dočasná ochrana prodlouží do 31. 3. 2027." If you do not come by 30.09.2026: • temporary protection ends; • humanitarian assistance stops; • free access to the labour market stops; • the status has to be applied for again under current conditions, without the time-limited benefits already used. What to do now: 1. Take your passport and the proof of the previous extension. 2. Check your office's opening hours — September queues are long. 3. Come in person before 30 September 2026 and get the sticker. This is separate from the EU Council decision extending protection to 04.03.2028: that decision is adopted but applies from 05.03.2027. The Czech deadline is a national procedure with its own date.
Нідерланди: temporary protection extended to 04.03.2028
WHAT CHANGED Added on the page: “The temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine has been extended up to and including 4 March 2028. Read what this means for the extension of your sticker or card.” Section “Extension of sticker or card for Ukrainians”: was “(PDF, 109 KB)” → now “Extension letter stickers Ukrainian.pdf (PDF, 109 KB)” WHO IS AFFECTED Everyone who already holds temporary protection in this country. WHAT TO DO Nothing. The period is extended automatically and you do not need to replace your document. An older date printed on your card is normal: the decision sets the period, not the print. Just keep your registration details current. VERBATIM FROM THE SOURCE (English) “The temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine has been extended up to and including 4 March 2028. Greece: men aged 18–22 must prove they left Ukraine lawfully
WHAT CHANGED The Greek migration ministry added a section on military obligations. Men aged 18–22 must submit proof of lawful departure from Ukraine. If that cannot be confirmed, an official document confirming exemption from or fulfilment of military obligations, certified by the Embassy, is required. WHO IS AFFECTED Primarily men aged 18–22. But the source stresses that people not subject to conscription may still have military obligations, regardless of age or gender. WHAT TO DO If you are applying in Greece, prepare proof of lawful departure: a border exit stamp or an embassy document. Without it protection is refused, and having family members who are beneficiaries does not help. VERBATIM FROM THE SOURCE «If you have not satisfied your military obligations in Ukraine, you will not be granted temporary protection in Greece, regardless of whether your family members are beneficiaries…» Source: migration.gov.gr — https://migration.gov.gr/en/ukraine/
Iceland: anyone who left after 23 August 2026 must prove the departure was lawful
WHAT CHANGED Iceland updated the collective-protection rules. First: protection is generally not granted if the applicant already holds another permit. Second: anyone who left Ukraine after 23 August 2026 may be required to show that the departure complied with Ukrainian law, including military-service obligations. WHO IS AFFECTED Applicants for collective protection in Iceland. The source notes the requirement is not determined solely by age or gender. WHAT TO DO Acceptable proof includes an exit stamp in a passport or an official paper or electronic document confirming permission to leave or absence of relevant military obligations. The burden of proof is on the applicant. Each application is assessed individually, and an exception may apply if you have a qualifying family member in Iceland. Germany: the Ukrainian ID card is recognised for another year, until 23 February 2027
WHAT CHANGED Recognition of the 2015-type Ukrainian ID card was extended by a year: from 23 February 2026 to 23 February 2027. WHO IS AFFECTED Anyone using the ID card instead of a travel passport to cross the border or to stay in Germany and other EU countries. WHAT TO DO Nothing urgent. But note the limits: the card replaces a passport for a stay of 90 days within 180, not for your status. If your travel passport is expiring, apply for a new one early. VERBATIM FROM THE SOURCE (in Ukrainian) «Українська ID-картка (зразка 2015 року) і надалі – до 23 лютого 2027 року – визнається як заміна паспорта для перетину кордону та перебування в Німеччині й інших країнах – членах Європейського Союзу (ЄС) на 90 днів протягом періоду в 180 днів.» Source: Germany4Ukraine — https://www.germany4ukraine.de/UA/einreise-aufenthalt-und-rueckkehr/einreise-aus-der-ukraine-nach-deutschland/seite_node.html

WHO IS AFFECTED Anyone applying for protection in Ireland after 5 August 2026. The page does not specify which documents are accepted. VERBATIM FROM THE SOURCE «From 5 August 2026, the following changes apply: 1. WHO IS AFFECTED People applying for the first time after 14 August 2026. It does not apply to those who already hold protection. WHAT TO DO Before applying, confirm you are eligible: the source states you should apply if you lived in Ukraine until 24.02.22 and fled because of hostilities on or after that date.
