Do you need to do anything?

In Ireland temporary protection itself is extended automatically by ministerial decision — you do not apply for a new Temporary Protection Certificate and an expired certificate still works as proof — but you must renew your IRP card yourself online through the ISD portal before the expiry date printed on it (you may apply up to 12 weeks in advance). As of 3 September 2026 Ireland has NOT yet announced a procedure for extending permissions from 4 March 2027 to 4 March 2028; ISD says it will advise if further action or renewal is required, so no 2027 application dates exist yet. Where: Immigration Service Delivery (ISD), Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration (13-14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2). The status extension is automatic — you do not need to contact anyone. IRP card renewal is online only, on the ISD portal (irishimmigration.ie, «Registration Renewal»); no in-person visit is needed, but you must be physically in Ireland; the new card is sent by post. Important: There are no application dates for the extension beyond 04.03.2027, because Ireland has not yet announced a procedure — the previous announcement (the extension to 04.03.2027) came only on 3 March 2026, one day before the old deadline, so the next one is expected around the end of February 2027. The IRP deadline is individual: it is the date on your card, not 4 March. If you do not renew your IRP in time, your status does not formally lapse, but you are left without a valid document: problems with your employer and with returning to Ireland (visa-required nationals would have to obtain a "D" visa at a consulate). Queues are long — ISD is still processing Stamp 4 applications submitted back in June 2026, plus up to 15 working days for the card to be delivered by post.
