Do you need to do anything?

The temporary protection status itself is extended automatically until 4 March 2028, but your A card is not: from 4 January 2027 you must go in person to your commune (gemeente/commune) and ask for renewal, and the new A card will be valid until 4 March 2028. The current card expires on 4 March 2027, so do not leave it to the last day. Application window: 04.01.2027 to 04.03.2027. Where: The municipal administration (gemeente / administration communale) of your main place of residence — an in-person visit to the commune's foreigners' service. The card is issued by the commune following instructions from the Immigration Office (Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken / Office des Étrangers, dofi.ibz.be). The registration centre at Belliardstraat 68, Brussels, is only for NEW applications — you do not need to go there for a renewal. Important: Keep two things apart: the status has been extended automatically by the EU decision (you do not have to prove anything), but the A CARD is a document the commune must reissue, and that will not happen without your visit. Practical consequences of an expired card: the right to work in Belgium is tied to holding a valid residence permit («autorisées à travailler à condition d'être en possession de leur titre de séjour»), so with an expired card you risk losing your job and access to your bank, CPAS/OCMW and travel.
