What happens after protection ends
The strpění visa is valid automatically until 31.03.2027. Afterwards: other residence grounds (work — employee card, study, family reunification under conditions). A repeat temporary protection application is possible but without guarantee and without preserving continuity of stay (relevant for future long-term status).

FAQ
Do I need to do anything to keep my protection after the current period?
In Czechia the status does not roll over automatically. Two steps are required: online registration on ipc.gov.cz with an appointment booking, then an in-person visit to a Ministry of the Interior (OAMP) office for a new visa sticker; only the visit extends protection to 31 March 2028. As of 3 September 2026 the Ministry has not yet published the 2027 registration dates — it says they will be released on the portal in due course (in 2026 the window ran 8 January to 15 March). Where: Step 1 — online: Informační portál pro cizince (ipc.gov.cz), section «Prodloužení», registration with an appointment booking. Step 2 — in person: an OAMP office of the Czech Ministry of the Interior (Department for Asylum and Migration Policy) to have the visa sticker placed in your passport. The in-person visit is mandatory; bedridden people may act through an authorised person, but online registration is still required. Important: The dates for 2027 have NOT been announced yet — do not turn up "by analogy". The Czech national deadline is 31.03.2027 (later than the EU-wide 04.03.2027), and the extension will run to 31.03.2028. If you do not register within the allotted window, protection lapses by itself once the term expires: last year the Ministry said so directly — «Pokud jste se neregistrovali k prodloužení dočasné ochrany do 15. 3. 2026, vaše dočasná ochrana uplynutím 31. 3. 2026 zanikla». A new application after that is assessed under NEW, stricter conditions: since 05.08.2026, men aged 18–60 with military obligations must prove full removal from the military register (eVOD in paper form + Reserv+), otherwise protection will not be granted. What do men 18–60 need since 05.08.2026?
Prove their exemption via the eVOD electronic document (Reserv+ app). Ages 18–22 — registration in Reserv+ is enough; 23–60 — full exemption. Paper document or consulate-certified (not older than 3 working days), freshness verified in the app.
What happens if I don’t report an address change?
Temporary protection TERMINATES: if your registered address is cancelled and not updated within 90 days. Report changes within 3 working days (if the new address is for more than 15 days). Verify your address at the Citizen Portal.
How do I extend protection?
Online registration closed on 15.03.2026. If you registered — attend your appointment for the new sticker (extension until 31.03.2027). If you missed it — protection expired on 31.03.2026; repeat application possible (no guarantee). The strpění visa is extended AUTOMATICALLY.
What is the humanitarian benefit?
Humanitarian benefit for temporary protection holders: first 5 months, then vulnerable groups only. Apply at the Labour Office (Úřad práce ČR). NOT paid to strpění visa holders.
Can I travel to Ukraine without losing my protection?
Leaving does not cancel protection by itself — absence from the country is not among the grounds for termination. But two other rules matter for long trips: protection is cancelled if your registered address is at the Interior Ministry office for 90 days, or if you obtain a residence permit longer than 90 days in another state. A change of address in Czechia must be reported within three days. Separately on health insurance: you may deregister only if you are going to Ukraine for more than six months and will stay there the whole time.
