Serbia is not in the EU but runs its own temporary protection since 2022: residence, work without a separate permit, healthcare and school. Renewed annually by government decision.
Serbia is NOT an EU member, so the EU Temporary Protection Directive does not apply: Serbian protection is a separate national government decision renewed annually (original decision 18.03.2022; as of 2026 protection has been extended, indicatively until March 2027). This means you must renew the status every year and watch for each new government decision — there is no automatic EU-style extension to 2027/2028 here. Plan: visa-free entry (90 days) → address registration within 24 hours → temporary protection application at the foreigners’ police → 1-year MUP card → annual renewal. If you plan to stay long-term, consider a regular privremeni boravak (work, study, property) in parallel, which leads towards permanent settlement.
