Iceland is not in the EU — this is a national scheme: a humanitarian residence permit based on collective protection, issued for 1 year at a time, renewable up to 5 years in total. Applications are accepted IN PERSON in Iceland only. Bring all identity documents (biometric or non-biometric passport, ID card, children’s birth certificates). The 2026–2027 extension is AUTOMATIC for those legally residing in Iceland — you only need to collect the new permit card on time.
