Register at a police registration point for displaced people; BFA issues the card. Protection has been extended to 4 March 2028. Holders of an Ausweis für Vertriebene have free access to employment: no separate AMS permit has been required since 21 April 2023. For newly granted protection, BMI requires compliance with military obligations under Ukrainian law and evidence where necessary. This does not apply to people who held protection in Austria on 4 August 2026 and have continuously retained it. Cover may come through work, co-insurance, self-insurance or needs-based Grundversorgung. Check your basis with ÖGK.
